Visual Art I and Art II Syllabus (Principles of Art and Design have the same required materials.) Instructor: Ms. El Bey Email: [email protected] Course Description: This course emphasizes the elements of art and the principles of design, color theory, vocabulary. Students are provided a strong foundation in design, drawing, and vocabulary in a lecture-structured environment. Problem solving and decision-making are emphasized throughout art as well as emotional intelligence, and critical thinking skills. Educational Philosophy: Student and teacher will work together to create an environment of respect and creativity. Creativity will be achieved through a solid foundation in design, technique, and exploration. Required Materials: 1 Pack of number 2 Pencils Black Sharpie: 1 Fine tip, 1 Point 8x11 Sketchbook: Drawing Paper 2 Pink Erasers Projects: The majority of your grade is derived from projects. Students will then practice fundamentals of each project in class, and participate in weekly class critiques. Rubrics will be the primary means for grading projects. Sketchbooks: A sketchbook is required. The size needs to be approximately 8.5”x11” (not much smaller!) and needsto be brought to class daily. Blank white paper is a must. They will be important to you as an artist and to your grade. I will grade student’s sketchbooks weekly. Warm-ups and class activities will need to be dated to receive proper credit. Quizzes Vocabulary and Thumbnails will counts as quizzes. Pop Quizzes will occur. If necessary during lectures and presentations, students will be asked to take notes in their sketchbooks. I will also give students handouts from time to time. All sketchbook assignments are fair game for quizzes as are studio rules and procedures. Quizzes may also be in the form of group critiques. Late Work and Make up Work It is up to the student to take responsibility for missed work. Be proactive and communicate with me ahead of time if possible. Recurring late work will result in parent/teacher communication. Students are highly encouraged to turn in all work on time. Make Up work depends on the assignment. Acceptable Content Student work must comply with Charlotte Secondary Acceptable Content Policy. All projects and contents for projects must be approved by the instructor.
